I could never settle when it comes to love. Listen…
I love love and I love the idea of love.
Background story, I was born and raised in Lagos, Nigeria. West Africa, stand eppp! In Nigeria, we got a computer, and I LOVED it. I was pretty much obsessed with that thing. The painting app, the pinball space cadet game, and minesweeper was everything to me, honestly. That was the life for me and I was more than content. Later, we went on vacation to London to visit my cousins, and they also had a computer, but theirs had the internet. It was then my life changed, literally, but that’s another story for another time. Anyways, I was introduced to the world of Barbie, online Disney games, funky friends, the sims game and, listen, when I tell you my eyes was opened. It was like a whole new world for me. We went back to Nigeria and I looked at our internet-less computer like …woz diz pls…
Lol, basically the point of this story is that when you’ve experienced something new, something different, something better, suddenly, what you thought you were more than content with, what you thought you loved so much becomes inadequate. Most times we settle because we don’t know better and because we haven’t experienced better.
That’s exactly what the love of God does. It makes us crave more, it makes us want more for ourselves, and for others. It changes the way we want to be loved and the way we love others.
When you have experienced the love of God, his unfailing ways, his steadfastness, My God! There is no turning back.
“I’ve tasted and seen of the sweetest of loves, where my heart becomes free and my shame is undone” Francesca Battistelli
The love that God has for us is real and beautiful, and it is the greatest love story ever told. Imagine someone knowing you deeply and truly, knowing all the skeletons in your closet, even the ones that you’re afraid to confess aloud because you feel ashamed, and imagine them still loving you without judgment and condemnation. Imagine them not throwing your past in your face when they’re mad at you. Imagine someone choosing to always see the best side of you even when you are at your worst or show them your worst. Imagine them constantly reminding you how much you are wanted. Imagine someone taking a criminal’s charge for you and dying a criminal’s death for you, even though they’re innocent, simply because your freedom is important to them. Who you were, who you think you are, and what you have done, was never a determinant or a factor for this kind of love because he is the embodiment of love and is very nature is that of love.
The love of Jesus doesn’t come with guilt or shame. It comes with freedom and it comes with peace. God came in human form, as Jesus, to pay a price that we owed, that would have cost us our life. He died a criminal’s death, but he rose, overcoming death, and giving unto us eternal life! “The wages of sin are death, but the gift of God is eternal life, through Jesus Christ our Lord” Romans 6:23. He paid our price and even gave us a gift.
He is the perfect personification of what true love is.
His love is patient and kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.
His love does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.
God’s love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.
It always protects, always trusts, always hope, always perseveres.
The love of God never fails. 1 Corinthians 13:4-8
The love of God is consistent and persistent without being eerie or bothersome.
I love God because he first loved me with a selfless and unconditional love that never let’s go.
This is why I could never settle for a less than type of love.
This is why I celebrate him!
Happy easter y’all , he is risen!
